Yelland Nature Reserve (North Devon)

A call for help from campaigners who have been fighting for 10 years to save an estuary nature reserve at Yelland, North Devon. It’s next to a SSSI, the RSPB Isley Marsh Reserve, the Tarka Trail and the Taw/Torridge Estuary and is teeming with wildlife and rare plant.

It’s been sold to 'the biggest cowboy developers in North Devon', who want to cover it with wire mesh and 400,000 tonnes of aggregate (coming soon from a quarry near you…) and turn it into an unlicensed waste tip. The developers have been training youngsters on an adjacent site, contaminated with asbestos fibres, PCBs, heavy metals, etc. The local people are appealing for "campers, tree sitters, wildlife minders, road protesters" and anyone else who’s up for helping defend this beautiful site.
