Irlam building plans (Salford)

[extract from email from Tony Delaney]

... plans have been passed. 346 houses will be built. The land will be levelled from Kwik Save across to the Boathouse end. Building will be within 20 metres, in places of the Old River Course, which... is an SBI.

Our only last hope(s), I believe are:
1. An appeal to the Secretary of State
2. A complaint to the ombudsman for mal-administration

We have already put a footpaths application in. But this may serve no purpose. Footpaths may simply become pavements and roads, albeit some 20 feet lower down.

I have spent most of my spare time over the last 18 months attempting to raise interest. The main problem is that the land was passed for residential building back in 1990 under the Urban Development Plan (UDP).

The fact that nobody seemed to know anything about it and that there has never to our knowledge been notices posted anywhere near the land may be useful with point 2 above.

In spite of massive opposition last year, most people now seem resigned to its fate.

If you have any suggestions or would like to lend a hand, we have days, not weeks left before bulldozers and earth moving equipment move in.

support, encouragement, suggestions etc badly needed
