Subject: [saveswallowswood] Great News!!

Highways Agency withdrawing from Swallows Wood Public Inquiry

Great news! Today the Highways Agency announced they were withdrawing from the public inquiry! For more information, read the full press release from the Highways Agency -
http://www.highways.gov.uk/news/pressrelease.aspx?pressreleaseid=172108

This means the public inquiry is now over. We're not entirely sure what happens next. Now doubt there will be some political manoeuvring as local politicians pull out all the stops (if they have any left) to try and get the scheme going again, but so far it looks like another reason for optimism other than the funding delay (see http://www.saveswallowswood.org.uk/news/2009-02-26.htm). Maybe this scheme really won't ever happen? Just maybe.

We are now waiting for news about the line orders, which should be withdrawn, and next steps generally. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We will do our best to help find out what's going on and how it affects you.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us at events, helped with campaigns, written letters, and contributed to the inquiry by objecting, turning up, or putting themselves forward for cross-examination. In the next few weeks we'll be launching a new campaign focussing on alternatives, so we hope you will continue to support us as we move the campaign forward. And if it turns out this really is the beginning of the end of the bypass, we might set a date for a party...

Best wishes,

Emma & Pat
