urgent appeal from wales

We have this evening had an urgent appeal for people from Worthing - with the available time - to go to Wales to help the Blackwood anti-road camp.

A feared illegal eviction expected to take place today, Monday 8th, has not transpired, however there are increased numbers of bailiffs and police, and contractors have started cutting down the larger trees. Work was recently stopped on Saturday, while on Friday afternoon Costain sub contractors (Walters) drove a tractor through a human chain of activists who were preventing logs from leaving a field.

A High Court reprieve from eviction was granted on 4th March - the case will go back to court the week of March 22nd, however Costain and sub-contractors continue to illegally destroy protected species habitat. The word is that a team of 36 chainsaws will be deployed soon, while rumors say the team of bailiffs at Blackwood are earmarked to later move on to evict Nine Ladies protest camp.

On Friday afternoon Costain sub contractors (Walters) drove a tractor through a human chain of activists who were preventing logs from leaving a field. No one was seriously hurt in the incident despite activists falling under the wheels and undercarriage. The machinery was stopped by onlooking Walters' management who despite ordering the tractor to drive through us, screamed at the driver to stop as activists disappeared under the machinery.
