Subject: ACTION AND PASSION on APRIL 4/5/6 1997!!!
PLEASE SPREAD THIS MESSAGE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE TO TRANSPORT GROUPS!
Dear Everybody!
Do you feel the spring coming? Don't you want to go out into the
fresh air to hear the flowers and smell the birds? To get a sense
of that thing we call nature? To feel like you are alive?
And if you do, do you notice that once again, the traffic has
increased? More cars compared to last year, more gasses, more people
going from somewhere to anywhere. More roads as well, more parking
places, less space for other things like grass or sunshine. What is
happening? Who is slowly taking the nice things away? Who thinks it's
necessary to build 12.000 kilometers of new highways in Europe? Who is
definitely sure that we should expand all the big airports in Europe?
Who says it's gonna get us jobs when that just ISN'T true?

A SEED Europe is planning a EUROPE-WIDE TRANSPORT ACTION WEEKEND on April
4/5/6 1997! And we want YOU and the people around you to take part in this!
How?
1) Think of some crazy transport project in the region where you
live. It can be anything from a new superhighway that nobody needs
to the closing down of tram number 4. Unfortunately, you will find
you don't have to look very far for such a crazy transport project,
because there are more than enough around.
2) Call your group, friends, family, pets, teachers, grandmothers and
neighbours together, anybody actually, as long as they are in for
action! Don't be shy!
3) Make sure that you can get enough people to do an action, and have
an evening of brainstorming and action planning. It doesn't have to
be big, it doesn't have to be tough or rough, it just has got to do
with transport. Choose one of the 3 possible action days. Tips:
* Choose Friday 4th if you want to direct your action to a (road
building) company or Ministry (of Transport).
* Choose Saturday 5th if you want to address more to the general
(shopping) public.
* Choose Sunday 6th if you want to aim for press.
4) Fax or email us that you are taking part in the A SEED TRANSPORT
ACTION WEEKEND!!
5) We'll send you an action pack with background material, tips for
action and tips on how to work on press, publicity, funding and
outreach. We'll also have an email/fax newsletter update to inform
you about other groups joining in the ACTION WEEKEND.
6) APRIL 4, 5 & 6 are gonna shake up the tarmac!!!
Last year, we had the TENs Action Day, which was a big success: more
than fifty groups from all over Europe did actions on one day (March
30)! A Basque group managed to stop and sticker a high-speed train,
the Budapest Clean Air Action Group organised a debate, there was a
bike action tour in Belgium, roads got flowered in Germany, etc.etc.
An International Action Day or Weekend is not only giving yourself
the feeling you're not fighting alone, but also showing prees,
politics and public that there is a Europe-wide transport action
network!
For this year's ACTION WEEKEND we have already got positive reactions
from groups in Poland, Spain, Switzerland and the Netherlands. We
realise the term is a bit short, but we're gonna try and make it as
nice as last year!
