New proposals for Hastings Bypass

Proposals for a new Hastings to Bexhill Link Road are once again being discussed despite previous plans for a virtually identical road (the Hastings Western Bypass) being rejected by the Government in July 2001. Friends of the Earth believe that the environmental impacts of the proposed routes remain unacceptable, with areas such as Combe Haven (a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest) likely to suffer negative impacts on landscape, wildlife and water quality. Friends of the Earth is urging the organisations promoting the Hastings to Bexhill Link Road to abandon their plans for a highly damaging new road which will not solve the transport and regeneration problems of the area, and put forward some real options for sustainable progress.
