FYLINGDALES STAR PEACE CAMP - JUNE 2002

A non-violent direct action campaign. Our aim is to oppose the use of Fylingdales for USA 'Star Wars'.

CLOSE THE BASE

Fylingdales is an early warning station for ballistic missiles aimed at the United States of America. It is identified as essential to the USA National Missile Defence [NMD] system, for which it would have to be massively upgraded to incorporate X-Band Radar. MILSTAR and SATCOM US military satellite communications' antennas on the base directly connect it to US Space Command. (MILSTAR is also used by high priority US military users, e.g. Trident nuclear-armed submarines).

('The equipment is supplied by the USA - "we monitor missiles and satellites; the information is transmitted to US Space Command at Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado".' - Fylingdales' Base Commander, Wing Commander Knapman. 12/06/02)

Without surveillance bases at Fylingdales, Menwith Hill near Harrogate, Thule (Greenland) and Clear (Alaska), the NMD system cannot work.

**** PEOPLE CAN STOP STAR WARS ****

[Remember Greenham Common?]

We are the whistleblowers, ready and waiting for you to join us to prevent the USA's NMD plans, which will mean a new arms race in space, on land, at sea and in the air. Join us to prevent future wars.

**** LAND - SEA - AIR - SPACE - BELONG TO ALL THE HUMAN RACE ****

We would like you to be part of the day-to-day running of the campsite. We have lots of fresh air, cooking facilities and a small number of tents for anyone wishing to stay for a short period. If you wish to stay for longer then a personal tent would be an advantage. Don't forget waterproof clothes and boots. Other relevant equipment we leave to your imagination.

Please let us know if you are prepared to come to camp to keep it going in an emergency (What if all campers were arrested?) We have offers of 'crisis' support.
